New PAI Poll: North Carolina Voters Back State's Farm Bill That Supports American Ag Manufacturers and Reduces Dependence on China

Nearly Eight in Ten North Carolina Voters Back the NC Farm Bill, and Would Be More Likely to Support Legislators Who Vote Yes

The Protecting America Initiative (PAI), a conservative nonprofit organization focused on safeguarding the nation from Communist China's growing influence, released a new poll today showing broad concern among North Carolina general election voters about the state's reliance on China for agricultural inputs and strong support for the North Carolina Farm Bill working through the state legislature.

Nearly three in four North Carolina general election voters say they would be more likely to support a candidate who votes for the state’s Farm Bill. The poll shows overwhelming support for a provision in the bill that protects domestic agricultural manufacturers and builds upon President Trump's leadership to combat China's stranglehold on critical farm inputs like fertilizers and pesticides.

Key findings from the survey include:

  • More than eight in ten North Carolina voters are concerned about the state's dependence on China for critical farm inputs like fertilizers and pesticides, which farmers rely on to feed families across the country.

  • 82% are concerned about what happens if disruptions in key shipping routes cut off farmers' access to fertilizer.

  • 84% say addressing the dependence on China should be a priority for the North Carolina legislature.

  • 66% back the President's use of the Defense Production Act, which boosted domestic production of agricultural inputs.

  • 78% support the North Carolina Farm Bill, seeing it as a way to protect domestic production and reduce dependence on China.

  • More than seven in ten voters say they would be more likely to support a legislator who votes yes, with a net +67% benefit.

  • A majority of North Carolinians (54%) say they would be less likely to support a legislator who votes no, a -33% net change.

  • 76% agree the North Carolina legislature should pass a bill that will protect pesticide and fertilizer production, which will keep the U.S. food system stable and keep costs down.

An online survey of N=500 likely general election voters in North Carolina was conducted from April 7-8, 2026. The margin of error is +/-4.4% for the overall sample.

BACKGROUND:

  • PAI battleground polling from late March found voters want protection for American agricultural producers amid global threats.

  • Polling from PAI in March found that Republican voters in the Heartland support President Trump's recent Defense Production Act Executive Order and want momentum to continue at the state level.
