New Florida Poll Shows Double-Digit Net Support for Banning Chinese Medical Devices

Florida voters say they'll reward candidates who act to keep their medical data out of Beijing's hands

The Protecting America Initiative, a conservative nonprofit organization focused on safeguarding the nation from Communist China's growing influence, released new polling today showing Florida general election voters strongly support legislation to ban Chinese-made medical devices that transmit patient data to the Chinese Communist Party and will reward candidates who vote for a ban.

There is double-digit net support amongst likely Florida voters for banning these devices from Florida’s hospitals. When voters learn their personal health data could be transmitted directly to Beijing, their concern hardens into a clear demand for action, with a majority of voters (55%) saying they would be more likely to support a candidate who backs the ban.

Key findings from the survey include:

  • 45% support / 35% oppose (+12% net) banning Florida hospitals from using Chinese-made medical devices that can collect and transmit patient data to the CCP.

  • 55% of voters say they would be more likely to support a candidate who backs the ban, compared to only 17% who would be less likely, a massive +38% net electoral benefit.

BACKGROUND:

  • This polling follows strong action from Florida’s Attorney General James Uthmeier to launch the CHINA (Consumer Harm from International Nefarious Actors) Prevention Unit aimed at countering CCP threats in Florida. The CHINA Prevention Unit focuses on investigating and litigating “companies that are unlawfully sharing data with China and other foreign nations, putting Floridians’ data at risk.”

  • The Protecting America Initiative has taken numerous steps to expose how Chinese-made medical device companies could leak the patient data of Americans to the CCP.

    • PAI launched an ad campaign thanking Florida AG James Uthmeier for taking action to crack down on illicit Chinese vapes, CCP-linked medtech companies, and other CCP threats to Floridians.

    • In December, PAI released an ad campaign “Do No Harm” in Florida, calling to get Chinese-made devices out of U.S. hospitals to safeguard the data privacy of American patients.

    • PAI rolled out a report detailing the threat that Chinese medical devices pose to American patients. In the report, PAI highlights how the healthcare sector faced more cyberthreats in 2024 than any other critical infrastructure industry, largely due to CCP influence.

    • PAI released a poll in November that found broad support amongst Floridians for lawmakers who address U.S. dependence on Chinese medical devices.
