Election night 2024 was a stunning victory for candidates who rejected the Chinese government's attempts to expand influence into the United States. Not only did national results bring resounding wins for President Trump and Republicans at the federal level, but the GOP scored wins in states across the country. It is time to for politicians to build on this mandate and pass laws that protect U.S. farmland, political independence, and economic superiority.   

Recently, the House Committee on Homeland Security (CHS) released a “China Threat Snapshot” assessment that provided insight into the regularity of Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-related cases of espionage in the United States. The results were shocking. There have been more than 55 documented espionage incidents involving 20 U.S. states since January 2021.  

It is well known that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is working to influence American elections. This year, we are now seeing new evidence that those efforts are being specifically targeted at Republican members of Congress with a record of protecting the United States from CCP influence.   

American farmland is the backbone of the country. It is crucial not just for the sheer economic value, but also because of its critical role in ensuring the country’s food supply in tumultuous times. That national security interest warrants discussion on what threats our agricultural land faces and how we can guard against potential disruption.  

Before leaving Washington, D.C. ahead of the November elections, the House of Representatives scored a major victory for American national security by passing 25 distinct pieces of legislation designed to protect against the unwanted influence of the Chinese government.  

Far from just focusing on federal targets, China has been steadily working at the state and local level to compile political intelligence, cultivate relationships with up-and-coming politicians, and otherwise find promising vectors through which to advance the CCP’s ambitions. Running the gamut from top to bottom, governors are ranked on their friendliness to China’s interests even as CCP agents attend local PTA meetings.

With the VP debate coming up on Tuesday, October 1, American voters deserve to know the facts about Walz’s ties to Communist China.
