President Trump’s Policies Promote American Farmers

American farm policy is national security policy. Now more than ever, the U.S. needs a thriving agricultural base to feed our citizens without depending on other countries. Exports of American farm products are also key to helping stop the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) around the world.

The CCP uses food as a weapon around the world. China has placed huge tariffs on American farm products as a tool in the trade war intended to hurt American farmers. The government in Beijing is also pushing cheap, subsidized food into countries around the world in an effort to make them dependent on China. The importance of food policy is also evident as Chinese individuals and companies buy up American farmland.

President Trump and his team have taken the food threat seriously and are working to ensure American farmers are thriving. Earlier this week, President Trump traveled to Clive, Iowa, to highlight the economy and Administration policies to support American farmers. During the first 365 days of his second term, the President has focused on making life more affordable for all Americans and supporting American farmers.

President Trump’s Promote American Farmers Policies are Good for Farmers

The President highlighted the many policies he’s implemented so far to support American farmers during his visit.

  • Cutting Regulations: The President has eliminated dozens of burdensome regulations that were crushing farmers, including the diesel exhaust fluid requirement. This saves farmers more than $1 billion per year alone. The President also highlighted his work with Congress to remove an electric vehicle mandate that would have obliterated the ethanol industry, which is essential to American farmers.

  • Removing Trade Barriers: The President highlighted the rebalancing of trade with foreign nations, noting he’s slashed the U.S. trade deficit by 77%

  • Achieving Trade Deals to Promote U.S. Farm Products: The trade agreements he’s made over the last year have frequently included eliminating trade barriers for agricultural products. President Trump is opening up new markets and opportunities, including:

  • Japan will allow the U.S. to supply up to 100% of automobile ethanol

    1. The United Kingdom will import nearly $1 billion of ethanol.

    2. Australia will allow U.S. beef into its market for the first time in over 20 years.

    3. China has agreed to purchase over $40 billion of U.S. soybeans.

    4. The European Union will increase purchases of U.S. pork, dairy, and soybean oil.

President Trump Has Delivered for American Farmers…Now it’s Time for Congress to Act

President Trump’s policies have made a difference for American farmers, reducing burdensome regulations, opening up new markets and opportunities, and combating China’s efforts to crush the U.S. agriculture industry.

As the Protecting America Initiative (PAI) has repeatedly stated, food security is national security. And while President Trump has made great strides, we need Congressional action to protect our food supply chain and prevent foreign threats.

The current Farm Bill extension (which, as we’ve noted, has extended out-of-date policies that no longer work for American farmers) expires on September 30, 2026, and it is long past time for Congress to pass a new, comprehensive Farm Bill reauthorization.

Congress must start working immediately to pass an updated Farm Bill. The legislation must include policies to help American farmers compete against the CCP’s unfair business practices. Those provisions include:

  • Increasing Commodity Reference Prices That Have Been Frozen Since 2018

  • Addressing Farm Worker Shortages

  • Modernizing Crop Insurance

  • Protecting American Farmland From CPP Purchases

  • Increasing Funding for Expansion to New Markets
